Caroline Kennedy Votes ‘Present’ On Democracy, Hocks Loogie At New Yorkers

Being a Kennedy has its benefits, I’m sure. As we’ve seen over the past two weeks, one of them is being able to call up the governor of New York and automatically become the frontrunner for a soon-to-be vacant Senate seat. As if this wasn’t enough of an insult to New York voters, she hasn’t even bothered to participate in the most basic right of the democratic process.  Ouch:

Caroline Kennedy, who is seeking to fill Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Senate seat, has not voted in a number of elections, including at least one race for the very job she’s seeking.

The Democrat registered at her current address on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in 1988. According to city Board of Elections records, she missed several Democratic mayoral primaries – typically important contests in left-leaning New York City – in 1989, 1993, 1997 and 2005. Republicans went on to win three out of four of those races in the general election.

She also missed the 2002 gubernatorial primary and general election, when Democrat H. Carl McCall faced Republican incumbent George Pataki and lost.

And she skipped the 1994 general election, when Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan was running for re-election for the same seat she hopes to take over if Clinton is confirmed as secretary of state in President-elect Barack Obama’s administration.

And who cares if she’s a princess??

(UPDATE)

So…. Are you aware of the voting records of Republican senators? Are you aware of the blatant hypocrisy and criminality by the majority of congressman.
Caroline Kennedy might not be the most experienced politician, but that should be a reason she would be good for this nation.

When you say “hypocrisy and criminality”, I hope you’re including Democrats as well. And if you’re implying that Caroline Kennedy is the best that the Democrats have to offer in terms of being an “inexperienced” politician with decent potential, that’s a sad statement for the Democrats. And judging by her recent interactions with the press, she won’t likely be at the vanguard of transparency. If she gets “appointed” to the Senate, it will be because of her name only, an that is hardly a vote of confidence.

    Thanks for posting.

I don’t know…why don’t we get someone who is qualified with experience? I know…a novel thought…what does a socialite know about my needs and my life? What does a princess know about struggles, the economy, raising children without a nanny, mean bosses who are prejudiced in the job, trying to make ends meet, feeding my children on a strict budget, having no electricity or water becaue I can’t pay the bill? Caroline knows NOTHING about real life. I do not want her for my senator.

Agreed. And this is true no matter what side of the politcal fence you’re on. The fact that you have, Emmanuel taking to Blago about who should fill Obama’s Senate seat, Biden’s assistant as a seatwarmer for his Senate seat so his son could take the spot in 2010, the Kennedy fiasco, etc., contrasts this rhetoric of a “new era” in DC politics as espoused by Obama. Democrats have their nepotism problems. But so does the GOP. The previous Alaskan governor Fred Murkowski appointing his daughter for his Senate seat didn’t go over well with me, as it does for most conservatives ad Republicans, I’m sure.
